Fourty!

Image
July is my birthday month, and this year it was a big birthday: I am now 40 years old. It feels so grown up writing this, I think I should feel old, even, but I actually don't. I have been thinking of how much has changed in the last 10 years. I moved back to my Country, moved a couple of times to different cities, switched jobs (and found one I love), got married, and had a beautiful little girl.  But I also feel I have grown up so much, through the good, the bad, the sad and the ugly. I am happy I haven't lost my trust in the human being - when I meet someone new, I still think he/she is not going to harm me, and if it happens, oh well. But I think people are basically good. I have learned to say yes to unexpected experiences, such my trip to Barcelona in 2011 (the picture above is from that trip), and to not be afraid of people I don't know. I am very shy and love routines, so doing that does not come naturally to me. I have read hundreds of books, seen beautiful

Weekend readings... on a weekday!

Image source: A house in the hills I am a bit late on this one... perhaps I was having too much fun on the weekend! So here are last week's favorite links: A deep insight on how the beauty industry (or any industry) creates new needs. Complete with questions to ask to one's self to decide if a "need" is a real need. A quick natural makeup look . This look is so chic! A very heartfelt post on how to avoid the comparison game . And a watermelon basil salad I can't wait to try!

One dress, three ways.

I was perusing the JCrew catalog, and found this very pretty dress. I think something like this could be very versatile, so I decided to try to make three outfits for three different occasions using this dress, trying to incorporate some pieces I already own, too! The first outfit is something I'd wear to go have a coffee with a friend or to the farmer's market. Easy, simple and comfortable. I actually own the sandals, and they are very easy to walk in. The second outfit is something I'd wear to a wedding or to an elegant dinner. Unfortunately I don't own anything from this set... The third outfit would be great for a brunch with a couple of friends, or even for work, with a cardigan. It incorporates my new Geox shoes, and a Pupa nailpolish I own. This was a very fun exercise - I should do it more often!

Image source A bit late... Somehow I really can't find some kind of routine with a 2 month old baby.! 10 ways to make an outfit look more expensive . I agree on all of them, especially the expensive accessories: great shoes and a great bag elevate any outfit! Are you a casual girl or a deliberate girl? I am definitely a deliberate girl, with some bits of a casual girl. Fashion phrases it's time to retire. But I wouldn't know how to replace "chic"! Love this pajama pants refashion !

Image by Vmac&cheese Happy weekend - and in the US it's a long one too!  I was so busy with my little girl I didn't realize it was Saturday. Actually, I never realize what day it is, but today it was weird, since I went to Saturday's farmers' market... Here are some great lings - several of them are recipes, and I want to try all of them!  A beautiful raw summer salad . Another inviting salad: avocado chickpea salad . Simple picnic bites . Finally, sweet lemon sugar cookies . A walk through a less known area of Paris - beautiful pictures by Victoria at Vmac&cheese .   A fun summer to-do list - a couple of suggestion are impossible for me this year, but I can work on the rest! Best high-end makeup products . I'd love to try the YSL lipstick... A little list of not-so-nice moves from Carrie Bradshaw - very on point, I have to say.  And a very interesting read on the latest discoveries on the placebo effect.  Happy reading!

June empties!

Image
Seeing empty bottles and jars gives me some weird sense of satisfaction... I decided to start showing my "empties", since I so enjoy reading other bloggers' too! From top left: Sunsilk conditioner - for straight hair . I have to say - meh. It's ok I guess. This conditioner didn't do anything special for my dry hair. Other Sunsilk products are much better than this. Franco Battaglia Nourishing conditioner . This didn't do much for my hair either - and the smell is plastic-y . Alberto V05 hot oil (not pictured) It gives my hair some hydration, but it doesn't deliver any miracles. My hair looks better after blow-drying it, though, and gets very soft. Leocrema  crema corpo Argan. Loved this. Is a body moisturizer which does its job and leaves a pleasant smell. Will buy again, after I have finished my stash of body creams/butters. NYC city curls mascara - in Black. At first I hated it . But somehow with time it grew on me, and I have been using it

July!

It's July! I can't believe this. My days go so fast with a little girl to take care of... I have always loved July because it means vacation, hot days at the beach, long walks on balmy nights, and because it's my birthday month! We'll try to go to the beach for a walk today, but I guess for a while we won't be able to spend the whole day there... It will be early mornings and late afternoons, when the air is fresh, the sun is gentle and the beach is almost all to ourselves. So... here's to a July filled with rest and sun!
