It's feeling like Christmas!

Image
This year's tree is white and silver with blue lights... It's getting colder here, and it's feeling a lot like Christmas. Last Monday it was holiday, and we went to Rome to see the Christmas decoration. Then we came back home and did the tree. It's the usual fake one, but I switched decorations. As for the presents, we decided to buy them only for thr children, and spend the amount destined to presents for a donation, just like last year. I think this year my donation will go to Emergency, and maybe something to UNICEF too. I really like this tradition my sister started, I much prefer the donation than looking for a gift I don't even know how useful will be... Baby's presents will be a dress I have already bought and a CD with children songs, since she likes them a lot. Little cousin's present is a Christmas pajama, for big cousin we have a set of fruit scented bath soaps. I am so happy and excited to celebrate Christmas this year with our little gi

What I wore - at work.

Sweater - Only Necklace - present from my sister Jeans - Miss Sixty Boots - Geox Another casual work outfit. This is a new sweater, one of my two November purchases. I bought it as a replacement to a shirt that was getting very "tired", and it was a good choice. I think I'll layer something underneath when it gets colder. I was alone when I bought these jeans, but these are another pair of "husband approved" jeans. His comment was something like (while looking at the baby) - your mom finally learned how to choose flattering jeans! Which could be a bit offensive, if I didn't know it was really tongue-in-cheek.

R.I.P. green dress.

Dress- Sandro Ferrone I found out this morning I can no longer wear this dress. My hips have somehow widened during during pregnancy, so it doesn't fit well anymore.  I am sad to say, I have to let it go. Hope it will fit my sister and she will like it...

What I wore - my mom-on-the-go outfit

Image
Or at least, one of the outfits I throw on when I am in a hurry. On Sunday morning the baby was getting fussy, so I decided we'd better take a walk, so she could relax and take a nap, while getting some sun and fresh air. So, I threw on this outfit:   Sweater - Tezenis Turtleneck - Tezenis Leggings - Calzedonia Boots - Nero Giardini Necklace - Steph's mom  It's comfortable like wearing pajamas, but a bit more refined. I met another mom (who is also a colleague) wearing a variation of the same outfit while walking with her two kids, so it's not like I had a breakthrough idea. The boots have a great walkable heel, and the necklace adds a nice touch. I bought this non-maternity sweater to wear while I was pregnant, and still like to wear it now - love when this happens! And yes, baby really relaxed an took a nice long nap. And I got to buy a Christmas present for husband too!

What I wore at work

Image
It has been such a long time since I published an outfit. I miss the days when I used to take almost a picture a day. I like to see what I was wearing two years ago, how my style has changed - or not. So, this is what I wore at work: Top - Lunatica Jeans - Express Boots - Geox Necklace - Souvenir from Greece It's so hot at work, especially with a lab coat on, that I have taken on wearing short sleeves. This top is from about 3 years ago, from a store I loved but that has since closed (sigh!). I wore a cardigan on top of it, just in case, but I left it on my chair the hole day. The jeans were bought at Express in NYC during my honeymoon. Since husband is very opinionated about what I wear, especially jeans, he suggested me to buy them. And he still says they are one of the pairs that fit me the best. I don't know, still have to decide - or maybe I just don't want to admit he's right.

Thanksgiving!

Image
Thanksgiving came and went, and give thanks we did. I had a small dinner with my mother in law, brother in law and his fiancée. Above is her cheesecake. She somehow was able to locate cranberries. I tried three different supermarkets with no luck, so couldn't make any cranberry sauce. But I made turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes and a green salad, and an apple pie to give good company to this beautiful cheesecake. Of course the pie had to be served with vanilla ice-cream. I looked for american recipes for everything, to try to be as authentic as possible.  I think the dinner was a success: we ate, drank (Italian wine, of course) and were happy together and little girl had a lot of fun with her grandma, aunt and uncle. She really likes to be in a crowd, the more the better. Sister in law and I already started making plans for next year: she promised to make corn bread and to locate some pecans for me, to make a pecan pie.  I am happy I started this Thank

Thoughts for November...

Image source Hi everybody! Turns out, going back to work really has made it difficoult for me to update this blog. And from time to time, I have even thought of shutting it down. But I have realized that we (the blog and I) have walked such a long way together, so many things have changed since I started writing it, that I don't really want to abandon it. Sometimes I write posts in my mind, but I don't have time to open my computer and actually write... It has been a struggle for me adapting to this new phase of my life: working and taking care of a baby. I do love her. My heart melts when she's about to fall asleep and she smiles at me and grabs my hand. She is a social butterfly, she loves being at social events - we had a family dinner and a friend's birthday last week, and she was so happy. I love doing things with her: we go to music classes for babies, and to the swimming pool. But I really miss doing things I love. I haven't been able to read a b

It's here!

This was the view from my balcony yesterday. And today it's only slightly better. Looks like fall has come, at last. Yesterday I wore jeans for the first time since... like... May, I guess. There is a cool edge in the air that is new. And yesterday we had our first cereal soup for lunch since a long time. And it was very comforting. As I am letting summer go, I am thinking all the great things I can do this fall. At the market I have seen the first squashes, and will buy them to make risotto for sure. Then, in a while, I'll start cooking my delicious minestrone again. And apple cakes, muffins, and galettes. On another note, I started giving some of the sweet pears easily found at this time of the year to my little girl. She can't have enough of them! She simply adores them. I'll introduce apples to her pretty soon, I am curious if she'll appreciate their fresher, less sweet taste. But it's a pleasure to see her eat. I really hope she'll enjoy eating p

Little outfits: gift edition.

The following are three outfits that were given to us from family friends. All are very cute, and the long pants will be very useful very soon, since evenings are becoming cooler already... I love the Flinstones one... All outfits from Original Marines.

Before summer ends,,,

Image
There are exactly two weeks of summer left, and before it ends I want to...   Wear my long gipsy skirt...   ...with my ethnic necklaces (this one is a present from my cousin).  Paint my toenails in a fun color once more... Wear my pretty sandals. Make more sourdough bread.  Eat my weight in summer produce. Thanks to Elle for the inspiration!

Editing...

Image
As my poor little girl as a fever and I prefer not to go for my walk to take care of her, while she is sleeping I keep editing. Yesterday I took care of my closet and drawers, and got rid of 4-5 pieces. Today it was my necklaces collection turn. I got rid of necklaces who were too old and ruined or just not my taste anymore. The ones who passed the edit are pictured above. They are still quite a lot, but I love them and some of them have a history or are presents from other Countries. It feels good to clean up my stuff, keeping only what I really love...

Little outfits: rock.

This onesie was a present from my brother in law. Black is a bit harsh on a baby, but I love the final effect anyway, especially paired with Winnie the Pooh socks!

September...

Image
Today it's September 1st, and it feels like fall here! It's rainy and cold... We came home on Friday after a month at the beach house. Although I am happy to be home, I am already missing summer, I am not ready to let it go yet, probably because the end of summer means I have to go back to work, and will have less time to spend with my little girl. And to chase away this little melancholy, I have decided to do a mini closet purge. I got rid of only 5 items, but sure it feels good!

August shopping!

Image
During the summer, this town is full of street vendors selling the most diverse stuff. I had some chance to do a little shopping, and here’s what I bought (plus quite some icecreams…): This skirt was 5€ and I bought it as a replacement for a skirt that got holes in it. I needed something fresh and casual for the weekends, and here it is. I actually have always loved this kind of skirt, I used to own several when I was in high school. Unfortunately they are not very practical to wear at work, so right now I only have two, and I am even debating if I should leave this one here at the beach house. This beautiful necklace was 20€. It really adds interest to a simple outfit, and I think I’ll be using it a lot.   found the next two items at OVS. The shirt (25€) is sheer (gotta wear a tank top underneath) but I like its softness. I don't own anything like this: I fell in love with the color of this sweater, which was 20€. I bought an XL, because I wanted it t

Top & bottom Sergent Major I love this because it’s so beachy and summery. Too bad I can’t remember who’s present it was…

Summer beauty.

I am spending the month of August in my beach house – which sounds much fancier than it really is: it’s an apartment in a town which happens to be built by the sea, where I used to leave before I got married. Beach living for me is all about no fuss: our meals are very simple (lots of fruits and vegetables), I have taken with me very few clothes and shoes -   I have more clothes for my little girl than for me, but they are smaller and take up very little space, plus she’s going to grow out of them so fast that I decided to bring them all – and a very streamlined beauty routine. It’s actually very liberating, since I am so busy taking care of my little girl, that I have no time before going out to put on a full makeup face,   which in this heat would melt anyway. So, these are the products I am using here.  First, in the shower (from left to right): ·          Testanera Gliss Hair repair with liquid keratin oil nutritive shampoo and conditioner .   They are both go
