FABruary style challenge - go green!

Image
Sweater - UC Benetton Skirt - Caractère Tights - Tezenis Boots - manifattura italiana Necklace - Street stand For today's challenge - go green - I chose this sweater, which is one of the only two gree items I own. It's a bit sporty, so I decided to pair it with my black pencil skirt. I like how the aqua green looks with black!

FABruary style challenge - play with eyeshadow

Image
Sweater - Express Shirt - JCres Pants - NY&Co Booties - Geox Necklace - present Pearl studs - Conbipel I liked yesterday's combination of polka dots and stripes so much that I decided to wear it again today, a bit tamed for work. The top part of my outfit is the same as yesterday, pinstriped pants are a pair I bought last summer in Buffalo. Here's a closeup of my booties:  Today's FABruary style challenge involved playing with eyeshadow. I played with some brown shimmery eyeshadows from Pupa which are part of a palette I got for Christmas. Here's the result: I was inspired by this tutorial by Elle, and really like the result. Of course, my makeup is toned down compared to hers, since I was going to work!

FABruary style challenge - Stripes and patterns.

Image
Sweater - Express Shirt - JCrew Skirt - Oltre jeans Tights - Calzedonia Boots - Manifattura Italiana Necklace - gift Today's theme is stripes and patterns.I was a bit at loss with this challenge, since I have striped items, but not too much patterns in my wardrobe. Then I remembered this fun polka dot shirt I bought in NY last summer, and decided to start from there. I don't really like wearing different patterns  at the same time, so I tried to keep them separate: Just a peek of these fun tights (a present from some Christmases ago) and of the polka dots. I quite like the result! On my nails, Cupcake caramel from Rimmel - a nice, understated color: And, on a side note - it's Election day in Italy! As google kindly reminds us... So, I am off to vote!

FABruary style challenge - Pants, please!

Image
Sweater - Conbipel Turtleneck - Tezenis Jeans - OVS Boots - Geox Pearl studs - Conbipel It could only be pants on such a rainy and windy day. I wasn't sure I wanted to get out of my apartment for my beauty appointment, but luckily I managed to go, and it was worth every minute - I got a facial and a massage, still part of husband's Christmas present. This sweater looks better without the turtleneck underneath, I know, but I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be cold after being sick the past days. I like its blue color and the interesting neckline and texture. I love these boots so much I think they deserve a shoot of their own: Soft, comfortable, warm, and really pretty. One of this season's best buys. After the beauty appointment I had to go buy some stuff. I picked up a pair of gray tights for me and 3 pairs of socks for husband at OVS. Tights were a necessity since my two gray pairs have holes, so I needed a replacement. During my walk to

Thoughts on my shopping ban.

Image
Image source I haven't advertised it too much, but, inspired by the girls at " Her late night c ravings " I decided it was time to start a shopping ban. It's not that I have been shopping like crazy, lately - quite the opposite. It's just that I have to pay for mandatory maintenance wo rk on my apartment, and I can't really afford to buy much. This situation will last at least until December, so ideally I should stop buying clothes/sho es/accessories at least until then. And I seriously think I should be able to make it  with what I have in my closet. I don't have a lot of clothes, but they surely are enough. There is stuff I don't wear too often - and it's a shame. There is on e M a x Mara skirt I bought in Januar y which still has its tags on. And there is the s tuff I wear over and over and I was getting sick of. Then along came the FABruary style challeng e proposed by Imogen Lamport. She really had the right idea at the right

FABruary style challenge - earrings

Image
For the last three days I haven't participated to the FABruary style challenge, since I don't have any coloured winter shoes (Fri) and on Sat and Sun I didn't have time to take a picture! I am back with today's outfit - and my earrings of course. Sorry my feet are quite out of focus... Sweater - UC Benetton Black Tee - Intimissimi Skirt - Oltre Jeans Tights - Tezenis Boots - Nero Giardini Earrings - Gift from Venice My earrings are not really visible in the outfit picture, so here's a closeup: They are made of white and clear glass, and are a gift from my aunt. Although I love earrings, since they bring focus to the face, I had a hard time choosing a pair that was not completely invisible (like the studs I usually wear), but not too big either. I don't really like to wear big earrings when my hair is so short, I find them overwhelming. I think these are a nice compromise: noticeable but not too "out there". As f

Valentine's day recap

Image
Yesterday the FABruary style challenge suggested to wear lace. Which I did. Only, I didn't take a picture of it, since I left in a rush and didn't come back home 'till 10:30 p.m. I wore the same top as here, only with white jeans. It's the only lace piece I own, both for winter and summer, so my choice was easy!   Wow, this picture is from March 2011, it looks so strange to me. And I still own, wear and love all these clothes! It migh mean two things: either I am in a style rut, or I chose my clothes very wisely, so that I love them for years. I like to think it's #2. So, after a rough start of the day, things got worse when I had a really bad argument with my boss, which made me cranky the whole day. Things started to improuve when I got home. I found some chocolates with a sweet note from my husband: So we had some chocolate before going to band reharsal. Then we went out for drinks, and then decided to pick up some pizza to have for dinner. Onc

FABruary style challenge - be blue!

Image
Turtleneck - Tezenis Sweater - UC Benetton Skirt - Caractère Tights - Project Boots - Manifattura Italiana Pearl studs - Conbipel Necklace - Random street stand This is the only idea I was able to come up with, mainly because I don't own much blue . I could have worn jeans, I know, but it looked like cheating to me! This sweater is almost a greenish blue, I don't know. It's a unique shape that I love, and great for layering. The picture doesn't show it well, but the tights are the same color of the sweater, so I added a touch og blue on my legs too. And don't forget my bag, from Conbipel: I wore this outfit for a long day at work. Seems fussy but it's actually very comfortable!

FABruary style challenge - Layers!

Image
Turtleneck - Tezenis Purple sweater - Lunatica Cardigan - Lunatica Skirt - Oltre Jeans Tights - Tezenis Boots - Manifattura Italiana This was easier for me - I often have to layer since when I get dressed I never know how cold it will be in the lab. And usually it gets hot in the afternoon. I bought this purple sweater and the cardigan at the same time, at a store, Lunatica, that now is closed (sniff!) . I like how they look together, the long sweater with the shorter cardi - the result looks pretty itneresting to me!

FABruary style challenge - flowers!

Image
This was a difficult one, mainly because I don't own floral stuff, be it an accessory or a piece of clothing, except than for this dress:   Dress - Conbipel Cardigan - Lwie Turtleneck - Tezenis Tights - Tezenis Boots - Nero Giardini Ear studs - Conbipel This dress is a bit light for this weather, so I had to layer it. In addition to the turtleneck and cardi, I am wearing a slip too! It is a bit too short for work, but I guess it was ok with these opaque tights, besides, I am covered by a lab coat most of my day. After wearing this dress, I remembered when I bought it I also picked up a pair of floral ear studs. So I wore them too! At the end of the day, I think I did pretty well!

FABruary style challenge - color block.

Image
Turtleneck sweater - UC Benetton Corduroy pants - Gap Boots - Geox Necklace - random street stand Well... this is my attempt at color blocking . I am not used to wear more than one color at once, or when I wear more than one color, they do not contrast each other so much! So I felt a bit uncomfortable in this. After a while, though, I stopped feeling self conscious. I might even like this combination! I love these corduroys for two reasons: I bought them in the Gap on the Camps Elisées in Paris, so they bring back happy memories, and they are husband's favourite pair of pants, so I am always happy to wear them. I wear this necklace a lot during winter months, since I think it looks really good with turtlenecks. It adds some interest to an otherwise very simple outfit, I think. Check out Imogen's first week round up !

Sunday reads.

Image
Hi! How is it going? I had bookmarked only two links last week, so I decided to skip Sunday reads last Sunday, and have a meatier one today! Form Allie at Wardrobe Oxigen: Styling a suit into separates and Capsule wardrobe for business travel . Why your image matters so much . Twenty tips that will make you a savy shopper and The nostalgia factor , from Angie at Youlookfab. A bunch of benefits from almonds ! I commented that my sister used to hydrate her skin with almond oil during her pregnancy, and she didn't have a stretchmark! Soothing colors as inspiration. Enjoy!

FABruary style challenge - sparkle for daytime

Image
Today's theme was sparkle for daytime , and at first I thought it'd be difficoult because I don't own many sparkly stuff, not even for evening. Then I decided to pull out this wool shirt which has sequins on the sleeves, and which I have actually just worn on New Year's Eve a couple of times:   Wool shirt - random street stand Turtleneck - Tezenis Jeans - Jane Norman (from the Netherlands) Necklace - Conbipel  Here is a detail of the sleeves, where the sequins are: It was the best I could do: not a big fan of sparkle, I guess! ETA to add another attempt to sparkle: This is Pupa Artbase in M031 (a ssparkly silver) and KIKO sparkle touch in 234 used as a topcoat.

Friday outfit.

Image
Sweater - Gemelli Skirt - Caractère Tights - Tezenis Boots - Manifattura Italiana Today's outfit was entierely picked up by husband. Well, almost, since he didn't say anythingabout tights. Yesterday night I  couldn't decide what to wear today (I pick up my outfit the night before), and he suggested this very simple combination of white sweater and black pencil skirt. So simple I hadn't thought about it! I wore this to go to work, to go to yoga class (not DURING yoga class) and to have dinner with a friend. It's pretty comfortable! Since husband didn't say anything about the tights, for a moment I considered wearing my burgundy ones. Then I decided I preferred to keep the outfit simple only black and white. Today's FABruary style challenge was about statement rings . Unfortunately, I don't own any, since I find them very uncomfortable to play music. The only rings I wear is my wedding band and the ring my husband to be gave me three

FABruary style challenge: Wear a dress.

Image
For the 4th day of february, the FABruary style challenge suggests to wear a dress . Here is mine, a but too dressy for work maybe, but I loved it anyway: Dress - Project for Upim Cardigan - Conbipel Turtleneck - Tezenis Tights - Tezenis Boots - Nero Giardini Necklace - random store in Holland This dress is more than 4 years old, and still one of my most beloved pieces. I bought it because it fit as if it was cut and sewn for me - doesn't happen so often. I kept the whole outfit gray and black, except for my brown boots. I think they add a nice unexpected touch. And I love my new necklace!

Weekend!

Image
I can't say it loud enough: thank God the weekend is here! It started yesterday night: I went see husband's group playing. It was really fun and I really liked them - but we got home around three! Picture courtesy of a friend Husband is the drummer! I was seriously thinking of wearing something like this at their next concerts: Image source Isn't it fun? So, today and tomorrow is small errands and lots of rest and relax!
